What makes Radisson Resort Phan Thiet stand out from other properties you’ve worked in?

Radisson Resort Phan Thiet stands out for several reasons that make it truly unique compared to other properties I’ve worked in.

Location and Authenticity: The resort’s coastal location in Phan Thiet with 2 hours drive from Ho Chi Minh City offers guests a blend of natural beauty and cultural immersion. Phan Thiet itself is an up-and-coming destination, which allows us to provide guests with a more authentic and serene experience.

Personalization and Local Experience: At Radisson Resort Phan Thiet, we are committed to curating personalized guest experiences that highlight the rich local culture, cuisine, and traditions. By fostering a deep connection with the destination and its community, we offer a unique and memorable touch that sets us apart from others.

Resort Atmosphere and Serenity: Radisson Resort Phan Thiet is thoughtfully designed as a sanctuary of relaxation. Our serene environment, complemented by the pristine beach, lush landscapes, and vibrant gardens, offers the perfect backdrop for guests to unwind and rejuvenate. This peaceful ambiance is what truly sets our resort apart, making it an ideal retreat for those seeking a tranquil escape.

Commitment to Sustainability: We have a strong focus on sustainability initiatives, something I’ve always been passionate about throughout my journey. From reducing single-use plastics to integrating eco-friendly practices into our daily operations, we are working to ensure that we are leaving a positive impact on the local environment and community.

Strategic Partnerships: Our recent collaboration with the General Consulate of India in HCMC, CD Foundation, The Park Hotel Hyderabad and famous Bollywood singer and actress to promote the destination to the Indian market is an example of how we are thinking beyond the typical target audience. This partnership has allowed us to tap into a new demographic while positioning the resort as a preferred destination for international travelers. Each property I’ve worked in has its strengths, but the combination of these factors at Radisson Resort Phan Thiet makes it a standout in terms of both the guest experience and our broader business strategy.

If you could plan a one-day itinerary for guests looking to explore Phan Thiet where would you send them?

If I were to design a one-day itinerary for guests eager to discover Phan Thiet, I would craft a perfect blend of cultural exploration, culinary delights, and stunning natural scenery, all featured in our signature Jeep Tour Experience. Here’s how I envision the day unfolding:

Morning:

Sunrise at the White Sand Dunes (Bàu Trắng):

Start the day early with a trip to the famous White Sand Dunes, about 45 minutes from Phan Thiet. The dunes are stunning at sunrise, offering incredible photo opportunities and a peaceful, serene atmosphere. Guests can explore the dunes via jeep or rent quad bikes for a fun ride, followed by a peaceful walk around Bàu Trắng Lake nearby.

Visit the Harbor:

After the dunes, head to the nearby Mũi Né Fishing Village. This traditional village offers a glimpse into local life, with colorful fishing boats and a bustling market. Guests can take a short walk along the beach, watch the fishermen at work, and sample fresh seafood or local breakfast specialties like bánh căn (mini pancakes with seafood).

Spa

Mid-Morning:

Explore the Red Sand Dunes:

On the way back to Phan Thiet, stop by the Red Sand Dunes. Though smaller than the white dunes, these offer unique reddish-golden sand and great views of the surrounding area. Sandboarding is popular here, or guests can simply take in the views and explore on foot.

Lunch:

Seafood Lunch at a Local Restaurant:

Phan Thiet is famous for its fresh seafood. I’d recommend lunch at a local beachfront restaurant in Mũi Né, where guests can enjoy dishes like grilled fish, shrimp, squid, and the regional favorite, bánh xèo (Vietnamese savory pancakes).

Afternoon:

Visit the Poshanu Cham Towers:

After lunch, a visit to the Poshanu Cham Towers provides a cultural experience. These ancient towers, built by the Cham people, date back to the 8th century and offer a glimpse into Vietnam’s rich history. A guided tour can give guests insights into the Cham culture and the significance of these historical structures, with panoramic views of the city and coast from the site.

Explore the Fairy Stream (Suối Tiên):

Just a short drive from the Cham Towers, the Fairy Stream is a hidden gem. This shallow stream flows through striking red and white sand cliffs, creating a unique landscape. Guests can walk barefoot along the cool streambed, surrounded by dramatic rock formations and lush greenery—a relaxing and visually stunning experience.

Late Afternoon:

Relax at the Resort Beach or Spa:

After a full day of exploring, it’s time to relax. I’d recommend heading back to Radisson Resort Phan Thiet for some downtime at the beach or indulging in a spa treatment to unwind.

Evening:

Dinner by the Beach:

To end the day, guests can enjoy a beachfront dinner at the resort. Phan Thiet is known for its laid-back beach vibe, and a meal accompanied by the sound of the waves is the perfect way to cap off the experience.

This itinerary offers a mix of Phan Thiet’s natural beauty, local culture, and relaxation, giving guests a well-rounded experience in just one day.

Building the right team is crucial for a property’s success. What are the key skills you look for when hiring new employees?

Building the right team is indeed critical to the success of a property like Radisson Resort Phan Thiet. When hiring new employees, I focus on a blend of technical skills, attitude, and cultural fit to ensure the team not only meets the operational needs but also aligns with the resort’s values and guest expectations. Here are the essential skills I seek, particularly for heads of departments and managers:

Guest-Centric Mindset:

In hospitality, providing exceptional service is essential. I look for individuals who are naturally empathetic, attentive, and committed to exceeding guest expectations. This could be demonstrated by a warm and welcoming attitude, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to solving guest problems before they arise.

Adaptability and Problem-Solving:

The hospitality industry is fast-paced and dynamic, requiring employees to think on their feet and adapt to changing situations. Candidates who can demonstrate past experiences where they quickly resolved guest issues or adapted to last-minute changes are highly valued.

Teamwork and Collaboration:

A hotel functions like a F1 racing team where various departments need to work seamlessly together. Being a good team player is essential. I look for people who can communicate effectively across departments and collaborate to ensure the overall guest experience is smooth and positive.

PGA Golf

Attention to Detail:

Small details make a big difference in the guest experience. Whether it’s preparing a room, setting up an event, or providing personalized service, attention to detail is crucial. Candidates who show an eye for detail in their previous roles or during the interview process demonstrate that they will bring the same attention to their role at the resort.

Cultural Awareness and Emotional Intelligence:

Our guests come from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, making it essential for our team members to demonstrate cultural empathy and understanding. When employees effectively communicate with guests from different backgrounds and adapt their approach to meet individual needs, it significantly elevates the guest experience.

Passion for Hospitality and Personal Growth:

Hospitality requires genuine enthusiasm. I look for people who are passionate about the industry and committed to growing within the field. A candidate with a clear drive for personal and professional growth often brings positive energy to the team and is more likely to stay long-term, contributing to the resort’s success.

Technical and Operational Skills:

While attitude and mindset are crucial, employees also need the technical know-how relevant to their role, whether that’s in culinary arts, housekeeping, front desk management, or guest relations. For technical roles, such as in the kitchen or maintenance, I look for proven expertise and a track record of high-quality performance.

Commitment to Sustainability:

As sustainability becomes increasingly important, I prioritize individuals who understand and support eco-friendly practices. Hiring employees who are passionate about sustainability helps ensure that our initiatives, such as reducing waste and conserving energy, are embraced by the entire team.

Overall, I seek employees who are not only skilled but who also embody our core values of service, integrity, and continuous improvement. This helps us build a team that enhances the guest experience and drives long-term success.

Lẩu Thả is a unique Vietnamese hotpot that reflects the local culinary culture. It features a flavorful broth, typically made with fresh fish, herbs, and spices, offering guests an authentic taste of Phan Thiet’s coastal cuisine. By enjoying Lẩu Thả, guests connect with the local culture and culinary traditions, enhancing their overall experience at the resort.

How will travel trends change in the 2nd half of 2024?

As travelers’ preferences evolve, several key trends are expected to shape the travel landscape in the latter half of 2024. Sustainable travel will continue to gain traction, with more travelers prioritizing eco-friendly options and experiences that reduce their environmental impact. Additionally, there will be heightened interest in wellness, relaxation, adventure, and culturally immersive experiences. Destinations featured in films, TV shows, and social media influencers will increasingly influence travel decisions. Furthermore, a growing trend toward multi-destination itineraries is emerging, as travelers look for immersive experiences that enable them to explore various locations.

Was a career in hospitality something you always dreamt of?  What is your advice to aspiring hoteliers?

While I didn’t necessarily plan for a career in hospitality from a young age, my desire for travel and exploring the world naturally led me to this industry. Over the years, I’ve come to realize just how rewarding it is to work in such a dynamic environment where I can positively impact people’s lives. Each day presents new challenges and opportunities, and that variety keeps the work exciting and fulfilling.

For those looking to enter the hospitality industry, my advice is to cultivate a genuine passion for service. This field is all about people, so developing strong communication and interpersonal skills is crucial. Additionally, seek out diverse experiences whether through internships, part-time positions, or volunteering to gain a well-rounded perspective on different aspects of hospitality. Networking is also key, build relationships with mentors and peers who can offer guidance and support. Lastly, stay adaptable and open to learning, the industry is constantly evolving and embracing change will help you thrive.

Which cities are your favourites for: 1) food 2) history 3) fashion?

1) Food: Penang is a city in Malaysia that truly stands out for me when it comes to food. The street food culture is unparalleled, offering a vibrant blend of flavors in every bite, from spicy to sweet. It’s a culinary paradise where Chinese, Indian, and Malay cuisines beautifully converge, all within one city, creating a unique and unforgettable gastronomic experience.

2) History: For history, Rome is my favorite. The city feels like a living museum, with ancient ruins, historic landmarks, and timeless architecture around every corner. Walking through the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, or the Vatican, you can feel the weight of centuries of history.

3) Fashion: Paris would be my pick for fashion. The city’s style is both classic and cutting-edge, with a rich legacy in haute couture. Whether it’s the Paris Fashion Week or simply strolling through the chic neighborhoods, there’s an undeniable sense of elegance and trendsetting energy that makes Paris a global fashion capital.

Jeeps Adventure Experience

You have worked in several cities, which is your favourite city for work and play?

I’ve been fortunate to work in many countries, and each city I’ve experienced has its own unique charm and character. Whether it’s the culture, the people, or the local customs, every city offers something new to discover. There’s always a fresh perspective or hidden gem waiting to be explored, which keeps both work and travel exciting for me.

When are you happiest?

I’m happiest when I’m spending time and exploring new places with my family, whether it’s discovering a hidden local gem or immersing ourselves in a different culture. Travel has always been a passion of mine, and it’s in those moments of discovery that I feel most alive. I also find great joy in making a positive impact on others, whether through my work or through personal connections. Helping others enjoy their experiences and seeing them happy is incredibly rewarding for me.

At work, which is your most challenging activity and why?

One of the most challenging activities at work is balancing the diverse and sometimes competing expectations of various stakeholders. Each group has its own priorities, whether it’s delivering exceptional guest experiences, meeting operational efficiency, or achieving business goals. It can be a delicate balancing act to ensure that everyone’s needs are met, especially in a fast-paced environment where things can change rapidly.

For example, maintaining high service standards while managing budget constraints or handling unexpected situations requires a great deal of flexibility, quick decision-making, and clear communication. Despite these challenges, I find them rewarding because they encourage me to think strategically, creatively and stay adaptable. It’s in these moments that I feel I grow the most, both as a leader and as a professional.
