What makes St. Regis Red Sea and Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve stand out from other properties you’ve worked in?

The St. Regis Red Sea Resort and Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, are truly exceptional properties, unlike any I have previously experienced or encountered anywhere in the world. These resorts are pioneers in their own right, as they are the first to be established on private islands along the stunning Saudi Red Sea coast, marking a significant milestone for Saudi Arabia.

As part of the groundbreaking Red Sea Global destination, these properties are contributing to the diversification of Saudi Arabia’s economy and reshaping the world’s perception of this remarkable nation. When people think of Saudi Arabia, they often picture deserts and camels, but our resorts showcase a different side of the country—one characterized by vibrant coral reefs, crystal-clear waters, and ideal weather conditions. The islands and their surrounding areas remain pristine, offering a slice of paradise that is conveniently accessible from many parts of the world.

Here, guests will feel as though they are stepping into a modern Saudi Arabia that honors its past while embracing a vibrant future. In response to your question, The St. Regis Red Sea Resort and Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, are incomparable to any other properties I have worked with before. They are truly in a league of their own.

Who is your typical customer?

Currently, our typical guests are local or GCC families seeking a tropical escape without leaving Saudi Arabia. Additionally, we welcome well-traveled guests from Europe, the USA, and other international destinations who are eager to experience something truly unique, such as stargazing on pristine white sandy beaches or exploring the world’s fourth-largest coral reef—experiences that are unlike anything they have encountered before.

If you could plan a one-day itinerary for guests looking to explore your islands, where would you send them?

A single day on our exquisite islands simply isn’t enough. To truly appreciate the serene silence, the shimmering stars above, and the countless shades of blue in the waters below, you’ll need at least three days. A stay at one of our resorts is more than just a getaway; it’s an immersive journey that reconnects you with nature and reveals natural treasures that few have ever had the privilege to witness.

Building the right team is crucial for a property’s success. What are the key skills you look for when hiring new employees?

Here on our islands, we don’t just see ourselves as a team—we are a community. Living in this extraordinary environment, we value personal connections and a shared sense of belonging. When bringing someone new into our fold, the most important quality we look for is a genuine spirit of adventure and a readiness to embrace life alongside people from over 40 nationalities. We seek open-minded individuals with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. While we will provide the training and skills needed for the role, what truly matters is their willingness to share their day and experiences with our community.

What is the USP of your hotel?

Being the first resorts of their kind in Saudi Arabia is a unique selling point on its own. Coupled with our prime location amidst the stunning Red Sea and an architectural design that is unmatched by any other hotel, these elements distinctly set our resorts apart. The St. Regis Red Sea Resort, crafted by the globally renowned architect Kengo Kuma, and Nujuma, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, designed by an associate of Norman Foster, are more than just resorts—they are masterpieces. Their distinctive designs embody exclusivity and luxury, making them true icons in the world of hospitality.

The St. Regis Red Sea Resort presents two spectacular specialty restaurants that are a must-try for every guest on the island. How will travel trends change in the 2nd half of 2024?

Regarding travel, we are confident that the latter half of 2024 will be exceptionally strong. With the Red Sea International Airport becoming fully operational and additional resorts opening nearby on the mainland, this will undoubtedly generate more attention and drive significant business to this emerging destination. The increased accessibility and growing appeal of the region will position us for substantial growth and success.

Was a career in hospitality something you always dreamt of?  What is your advice to aspiring hoteliers?

I could never see myself doing anything else. Hospitality has been a part of my life and my family’s legacy since I was a child. I grew up in an environment where hospitality was a way of life, and eventually, we even opened a family restaurant in my grandfather’s house in the countryside of Venice.

For young talent aspiring to build a career in this field, my advice is to be patient and master the classics, as classic hospitality will always be valued worldwide. Additionally, stay true to yourself and share your story with the world. We need more unique individuals who are passionate about and genuinely love this incredible profession.

Which cities are your favourites for: 1) food 2) history 3) fashion?

Being Italian, I naturally have a soft spot for all things “Made in Italy.” Whether it’s food, fashion, or culture, I truly believe Italy holds a unique advantage compared to the rest of the world. Personally, I love a nice home-cooked meal, and when it comes to recharging, there’s nothing quite like the Dolomites.

You have worked in several cities, which is your favourite city for work and play?

Budapest holds a special place in my heart, not only because my wife is from there but also because my children were born in this magnificent city. The atmosphere in Budapest is a captivating blend of history, culture, and fun, making it the perfect destination for a vacation or an extended stay.

When are you happiest?

I’m very happy when I’m with my family. Since our current location isn’t ideal for them due to the lack of schooling options, I cherish the time we have together and always strive to make it meaningful for both them and me. Honestly, I truly love what I do and the people I work with. Spending time with my amazing team and learning from them brings me immense joy.

At work, which is your most challenging activity and why?

As I’ve mentioned, we are a community, and I feel a significant responsibility towards this community to ensure that everyone is engaged and fulfilled in their daily roles. The responsibility I hold towards both our guests and the team can sometimes be challenging, but it is also deeply rewarding and satisfying.
